Don’t Confuse Circumstances with Destiny

Hello friends. Don’t Confuse Circumstances with Destiny. They are completely opposite of each other. Circumstances or destiny. Hmmm.

Circumstances can be good one day and the next day you can run out of gas, forget to be at a meeting, get in an argument with your loved ones or friends…. And the day seems to go in a direction you don’t want to go!

Side note * Through several steps I have been locked out of my blog ( my circumstances that were beyond my control) for a couple months and now am able to get back on. Thank goodness! I am wanting to share my new collection and series of planning your days with destiny in mind rather than a To Do list. Destiny is the big picture, a to do list is merely tasks to be completed.

Destiny is the big picture a to do list is merely tasks to be completed.

Destiny is the big picture in that you want to become the person you are meant to be and be happy. Don’t Confuse Circumstances with Destiny. Destiny is what we are meant to be, meant to accomplish, the person we are meant to become. Circumstances can be wonderful or rough. They can go back if there is a lack of planning and we can’t find the car keys, get to a meeting late, and eat ice cream 3 times a day. The consequences of our circumstances and choices can leave us a hot mess!

You want to be a great mom, perhaps a good wife or husband, and also a successful person in your area of interest. But destiny is even bigger than those things all put together. Planning your days and making a To do list is important to remember to do all the things and not forget important events, meetings and appointments.

Circumstances always change

Circumstances always change. They depend on so many things, in fact too many things to cover. And people change circumstances because of their involvement.

If they always change how can they possibly determine your destiny? The truth is decisions we make are more likely to align us with our destiny. We’ve heard stories of people who have beat incredible odds to become a person they didn’t start out to become.

Circumstances; an event or fact that causes or helps to cause something to happen.

Oxford Dictionary

Destiny; a predetermined course of events often held to be an irresistible power or agency

Merriam Webster Dictionary

When something happens that is beyond your control be mindful that those circumstances may be caused by people, weather, a boss, a friend…

Destiny is a goal to be reached

Also be mindful of this scripture by God himself –

“For I know the plans I have for you, plans for GOOD and not for EVIL, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11 New King James Version Bible

Circumstances or Destiny Both have options

Destiny has options. We play a big part how our destiny plays out. Think of this – a child who is exceptional in sports needs to practice, train, run, exercise, strengthen their muscles to improve, to excel and become skillful at the sport the child plays. The child could just play on his computer each day, or follow other interests that keep him from excelling in sports and never know the experience of destiny in his life.

If the child becomes a teenager, then an adult, and never practices, or grows their skill they may never become the athlete they are meant to be. Destiny can be distant. Destiny has options. We have to shift our actions and our direction to reach it. Circumstances distract, redirect, alter, and cause us to often veer AWAY –

Circumstances are what we experience when we run out of gas, or don’t get the job we hope for. It is just a thought, but our decisions can help us plan ahead so we don’t run out of gas, or get more training so we can get the job we hope for. It is just a thought, but circumstances and our decisions ultimately affect the direction we go.

Perhaps a singer has a great singing talent. Because of years of practicing, vocal coaching, and singing in choirs the singer can experience a measure of success. But they recognize that their destiny is to sing. Their destiny is a song deep within them that must be sung.

Choose Destiny

When possible choose destiny. In fact fun after it. Pursue it.

Circumstances or destiny. I remember going to college and wanting to get a music major. But I wasn’t trained enough and was not prepared musically to get the wanted degree. I turned a different direction and ended up getting a social work major at college.

My destiny was to sing, and be a music director at our church for 25 years. Regardless of not getting the degree, I knew I had a song deep within me to sing. And I have spent my life doing just that.

I was a music director at church for over 25 years and I didn’t need the degree to have the position, but I did need the training.

And my social work degree? Several years ago I got a wonderful job working in a medical office as a bereavement coordinator and the social work degree that seemed a second choice at the time, became a bridge to a new job.

Destiny creates hunger and circumstances distract

Destiny creates this restless hunger within to accomplish, to do, to go, to be. And circumstance may distract one from their destiny. Even though circumstances happen and they may not always be controllable, they can be managed. Recognizing that destiny plays a big part in the future. Knowing what you want to focus on in life is good because it helps you decide where to work, the college you might go to, who to marry, whether or not to stay in your home town, or go.

I remember my mother telling me I needed to go to college. I wasn’t big on the idea, but truth be told I couldn’t tell you why. It was a big change. Once I left for college it was the best decision I made for that season of my life. I didn’t know what I couldn’t see or understand. I had to get there to see and to know. So it was uncomfortable and also the best move for me.

Destiny – Where you want to be

Where you want to be. That thought is meant to stir you to reach for more. To reach and stretch further. Learn more, grow more, and believe for more. Circumstances or Destiny. Circumstances can often be changed or helped by planning, thinking ahead and having a game plan. Destiny is making specific decisions that affect your tomorrow. Where you work, who you marry, church you decide to go to, people you are with, all those decisions are made by you at some point. Some seasons require a lot of time and effort. Decisions are made and we have to faithfully take care of what we are in charge of.

“let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”

Hebrews 12:1 New King James Version Bible

God says in Psalm 37:3,4,5 trust in the Lord and do good (do good to your family, your friends, your co workers) dwell in the land and enjoy his faithfulness, Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, (I loved this part of the scripture when I was changing diapers for our kids during the baby season!)
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.

Circumstances or destiny. Circumstances often don’t reflect God in our lives but the choices and decisions of people in our lives.

NIV Bible

Circumstances can be caused by other people, situations and they can often be beyond our control. Don’t lose heart on rough days. Remind yourself what God says- “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” Jeremiah 31:3

The last thing I want to share, is that no matter the season, God gives us grace to be excellent in that season. No matter the work, the task the responsibility, you can bring excellence because God is with you and God will strengthen you. Philippians 4:13 “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.”
